With an empty system, this process should work without issue. But if you have an application installed and registered with the old name, you should have some trouble when you will change the server name. For example, for SQL Server, you need to change the DB connection when you rename and change @IP.
Rename a server, or change the server domain, is not the complicated step. It is the application hosted on the system. You need to check how is installed the app , and if you have some dependancies before migrate like that.
